“The Loneliest Number, Part Two: Crimes and Commitments!”

DC's "Special Love & Bullets Issue!" lives up to its playful banner on this 1992 entry in Marv Wolfman, Art Nichols, and George Pérez's run — with cover art by Mike Zeck showing Deathstroke in his signature blue-and-orange armor sharing a passionate kiss with a blond, heavily armed woman, both clutching rifles while downed figures litter the ground around them. It's a wonderfully absurd Valentine's Day tableau: romance and firepower in equal measure, bodies sprawled at their feet as if the couple barely noticed the skirmish they just walked through. With "Team Titans Is Coming!" teased in the corner and "Crimes and Commitments!" as the story's subtitle, this issue delivers exactly the kind of pulpy, action-soaked intrigue that made Deathstroke one of DC's most compelling solo titles of the early '90s.
