Paul Jenkins and Carlos Magno's Deathmatch continues with its fifth issue from BOOM! Studios, and Whilce Portacio's cover sets a striking tone — a massively armored figure climbs a grand staircase toward a blinding doorway of light, flanked on either side by looming mechanical structures that dwarf everything below. The composition pulls the eye straight up that staircase, making the silhouetted figure feel both powerful and strangely solitary against that radiant threshold. If this series has had you hooked on its superhero-versus-superhero tension, this 2013 installment looks poised to keep that momentum going strong.
