This sixth volume of Atsushi Kaneko's Deathco arrives with a cover that's equal parts unsettling and hypnotic — a small, dark-clad girl clutching a blade stands at the center, surrounded by a grim parade of grotesque masked figures: a leering clown, a horned skull, a gas-masked specter, a jack-o'-lantern, and several other nightmare-faced entities looming from the stark black background. The monochromatic design is striking in its restraint, letting Kaneko's sharp, macabre linework do all the talking. Fans of dark manga with a distinctly sinister aesthetic will find this 2018 Casterman volume a fittingly eerie addition to the series.
