"Fool's Gold" follows gunslinger Jed Busch as he pursues a ruthless outlaw across Death Valley to a lost Indian mine. When Soled Busch loses no time catching up with the fugitive, a fierce gunfight erupts; Jed rushes forward for the kill but is stopped by a stranger who saves his life. Later, the stranger reveals he is heading back to West City and instructs Jed to wait before forming a posse, promising to handle the situation. As Bart Leonared flees town with saddlebags full of gold, gunfire breaks out in Silver City's general store where the outlaws attempt to rob it, but the quick-draw sheriff and his men turn the tables on them. The climactic confrontation ends with the sheriff preparing to form a posse to chase down the remaining outlaws fleeing town.

Tom Quillan's lifelong search for gold finally pays off when a chance rescue of an Apache chief's daughter leads to the discovery of a hidden Indian mine—but his loose tongue in the saloon attracts the attention of Jed Busch, a trigger-happy outlaw fleeing the law, setting the stage for a deadly clash over the spoils. When Busch learns of Quillan's strike and the secret location, greed and violence threaten to destroy them both in "Fool's Gold," a tale of betrayal and bloodshed in the Old West.

Bart Leonard commands the respect of West City as its sheriff—but behind that badge lies a far darker truth: he's secretly leading a murderous gang of road agents and killers. When Leonard's violent past threatens to catch up with him in a neighboring town, his dangerous game collides with matters of the heart, forcing a reckoning neither he nor his gang can escape. Don Heck's artwork captures the brutal frontier justice that awaits when deception meets its match.
