Death of Wolverine #4
The concluding chapter of this 2014 Marvel miniseries arrives with one of the most somber covers of the year: a skeletal, robed Death cradles a battered, bloodied Wolverine in its arms, his adamantium claws still faintly visible as tall grass sways around them in the dim light. Steve McNiven and Jay Leisten render the image with striking, painterly intensity — equal parts brutal and mournful, evoking the weight of a long and violent life finally stilled. Charles Soule's "History" promises a fitting send-off for one of Marvel's most enduring mutants, and this fourth and final issue makes clear from its very cover that the story has arrived at its end.
