About this Issue

Deadpool #1 (2024) launches the tenth volume of Deadpool's solo ongoing series and marks the first appearance of Death Grip, a new villain whose obsession with Wade Wilson drives the arc. By centering the series on a father-daughter dynamic between Wade and Ellie Camacho — while also folding in symbiote companion Princess — writer Cody Ziglar shifted the book's emotional core toward found family and generational legacy rather than solo mercenary chaos. The issue also served as a deliberate on-ramp for readers arriving fresh from Deadpool's high-profile 2024 film return, broadening the character's readership without abandoning continuity.

History

Marvel announced the series in December 2023, with Cody Ziglar — coming off his acclaimed run on Miles Morales: Spider-Man — taking the writing reins and Rogê Antônio, known for his work on Venom and Carnage, handling interior art. The main cover was provided by Taurin Clarke, and the issue carried a Parental Advisory rating, edited under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. The first five issues were subsequently collected in the trade paperback Deadpool by Cody Ziglar Vol. 1: Blood Bond, released November 2024.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • First appearance of the villain Death Grip, the series' central antagonist who becomes fixated on Wade Wilson as someone seemingly unencumbered by death.
  • First appearance (in this volume) of Pierre and Hénry Laponté, both of whom die in this issue — Laponté is a mutant with portal-creation abilities.
  • Written by Cody Ziglar (Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Futurama) with interior art by Rogê Antônio (Venom, Carnage) and a main cover by Taurin Clarke; released April 3, 2024.
  • This is the tenth volume of Deadpool's solo ongoing series at Marvel Comics.
  • Ellie Camacho (Deadpool's biological daughter, first introduced in Deadpool #19, 2012) appears as a supporting character; Ziglar foregrounds the father-daughter relationship as a core series theme.
  • Princess — the Carnage-derived symbiote hyena/dog created by Alyssa Wong in Deadpool (2022) #1 — returns as Wade's companion, confirmed as a permanent fixture of his supporting cast rather than a one-run character.
  • Agent Julia Gao, a recurring antagonist from Miles Morales: Spider-Man (Vol. 2) #1 (2022), appears in this issue only via hologram, connecting Ziglar's two concurrent Marvel titles.
  • The issue kicks off a storyline set partly in Montréal, Canada — Wade's homeland — and introduces the concept of Wade starting his own boutique mercenary agency, which becomes a structural element of the ongoing series.
