Deadman #7

Vertigo's mature-readers take on Deadman reaches its seventh chapter with this April 2007 issue, written by Bruce Jones with art throughout by John Watkiss. The cover — rendered by Watkiss in brooding blues and deep shadow — pulls two faces into an unsettling near-kiss, one figure looming from above while a pale, distressed face below seems almost to dissolve into the darkness, capturing the eerie tension that defines this run. It's a hauntingly atmospheric image that makes "Conceptions" feel like exactly the kind of psychological ghost story Vertigo does best.
