Deadman #4

Issue four of this 2007 Vertigo miniseries puts Boston Brand front and center in a genuinely striking image — the pale-faced, red-suited Deadman clinging to a fire escape as sparks fly and a searchlight cuts through the murk around him, all rendered with John Watkiss's loose, painterly energy. The cover captures the character's eerie blend of acrobatic urgency and ghostly stillness perfectly, making it easy to see why writer Bruce Jones and Watkiss make such a compelling creative pairing. "Friends and Other Enemies" promises exactly the kind of morally tangled tension the title suggests.
