Drenched in smoldering amber tones, the cover of this 2009 Daedalus release sets a tense, noir-tinged mood right from the first glance. A leather-clad woman armed with a blade stands in the foreground, while looming behind her a rugged man levels a pistol directly at the viewer — and deeper in the background, a crouching figure and a standing man in a trench coat suggest a scene of quiet menace. Corbeyran's story "Valstrikken" (Traps) and Richard Guérineau's atmospheric linework, rendered in rich color by Isabelle Merlet, make this second season-one volume of De Zang van de Vampiers a compelling entry in the series.
