Date with Debbi #18

A sunny day at the beach turns awkward on this November 1972 cover, as a dark-haired young man — apparently smitten by a passing girl in a polka-dot bikini — turns to a noticeably unamused Debbi with the cringe-worthy line, "Gosh, Debbi — why don't YOU get a bathing suit like THAT?" Stan Goldberg's cover pencils capture the breezy, good-humored drama of DC's teen romance line with charm to spare. Paired with the interior story "The Ugliest Man in Town" and artist Bob Oksner's work throughout, this is a delightful slice of early-'70s teen comics at their most relatable.
