Dark Shadows #5

Francesco Francavilla's cover for this fifth issue is a masterclass in gothic atmosphere — a young woman, her back turned to us and blood trickling down her neck, leans over an open coffin while a pair of enormous, red-rimmed eyes loom ominously from the darkness above, a bat silhouetted nearby. The deep crimson and shadow palette feels perfectly suited to the Dark Shadows world of vampires and dread. Dynamite's 2012 run continues to deliver moody, compelling horror with a pulp elegance that fans of the property will find hard to resist.
