Francesco Francavilla's cover for this 2013 Dynamite installment is a moody, atmospheric stunner — a brooding male figure in profile stares into a vast, swirling dark vortex at whose crimson center a shadowy figure crouches amid what appears to be a monstrous form. The fiery amber and deep black palette gives the whole image a smoldering, Gothic urgency that fits the Dark Shadows world perfectly. With interior work from writer Mike Raicht and artist Nacho Tenorio, issue #12 looks like a compelling chapter for fans of supernatural drama.

Julia and Elizabeth confront the demonically possessed Roger and Carolyn to try to free Barnabas and Willie. However, a human sacrifice is made and a demon is released who wants to possess Barnabas's body, not realizing that he is no longer a vampire. The demon rejects the now-human Barnabas, whose spirit is then drawn to the year 1984, where the future Collins family has summoned him for help.
