Dark Reign: Sinister Spider-Man #2

Part two of four in Marvel's 2009 Dark Reign crossover, this issue drops a wide-eyed man in a rumpled suit and loosened tie into freefall, his body tumbling helplessly as a massive dark, feathered shape tears through the air above him — an arresting image of someone very much out of their depth. Chris Bachalo's cover pencils pair an almost cartoonish expressiveness with genuine menace, casting the whole scene in a sickly yellow that makes the chaos feel all the more unsettling. If "We Need a Hero" is the story's promise, this cover suggests the search might not be going especially well.
