“The Phoenix Agenda Part Three Metamorphosis”

Part three of "The Phoenix Agenda" arrives with a cover that's genuinely unsettling: a man in a lab coat appears to be undergoing some kind of horrifying physical transformation, his face disturbingly doubled as panicked onlookers react in the background, while the masked hero known as the Torch of Liberty watches grimly from the lower corner. Cover pencils by John Byrne with inks by Gary Cody give the scene a tense, painted quality that suits the "Metamorphosis" subtitle perfectly. Dark Horse's Legend imprint was doing some of its most ambitious work in 1994, and this issue looks like a fine example of that ambition.
