Damita #231
"La fugitiva" in Damita #231 (1963) is a poignant, character-driven story drawn with quiet intensity by José González, who both pencils and inks the entire issue. It follows Sally, a young woman fleeing her abusive father at the fairgrounds, as she seeks refuge in a barn and finds herself caught in a delicate web of family secrets and shifting affections. As she hides from her past, a quiet bond begins to form with the son of the household—though his neighbor’s daughter has her own designs, setting the stage for a tender, tense romance unfolding beneath the summer sky.
