The second chapter of this five-part Dark Horse series announces itself with a genuinely unsettling image: two children sit back-to-back on the ground, absorbed in their books, while an enormous writhing mass of monstrous, multi-eyed, many-mouthed horror erupts from between them and towers overhead — red veins threading through its teal, organic bulk like something alive and hungry. The quiet suburban setting in the background, with its lone tree and porch-lit house, makes the contrast all the more chilling. Colin Lorimer, with colorist Joana Lafuente and letterer Jim Campbell, delivers a cover that balances childhood innocence against creeping dread in a way that's hard to look away from.
