“Buggy Bedlam”

There's something wonderfully chaotic about this 1959 Dell issue, where Daffy Duck — decked out in full cowboy gear complete with a wide-brimmed hat, spurs, and holster belt — is juggling four rapidly melting ice cream cones, one in each hand and one tucked under each wing. Phil De Lara's cover art captures Daffy's manic energy perfectly against that bold red background, the dripping scoops of chocolate, pink, mint, and vanilla threatening to make a magnificent mess. It's the kind of cheerfully absurd scenario that made these Dell funny-animal comics such a delight for young readers in the late 1950s.
