“Pittfall”

In "Pittfall," the D.P. 7 team faces a dire crisis inside the mysterious Pitt, where Randy's unique antibodies are their only hope for survival—except when one of them proves too heavy to save. With a rogue military agent named Spitfire complicating matters and rising magma threatening to consume them, the group must rely on unexpected alliances and second chances. Written by Mark Gruenwald and illustrated by Paul Ryan, with inks by Danny Bulanadi and colors by Paul Becton, this 1988 issue delivers tense, character-driven drama in a setting that’s as unforgiving as it is strange. The cover, by Paul Ryan, captures the moment’s intensity with stark, grounded detail.

Randy is able to safely remove the others from the Pitt using his antibodies, except for Dave, who is too heavy. The group then meets the AWOL military agent, Spitfire, who destroys one of the antibodies by mistake. In the Pitt, Dave encounters Jeff and, to make up for destroying one of Randy's antibodies, Spitfire helps rescue them from rising magma at the bottom of the Pitt. Chuck Harrington, a changed man, travels to the Clinic to bring Stephanie home. She begins to revive from her coma after he apologizes at her bedside.
