About this Issue

Cyber Force (2018) #4 serves as the capstone of the first arc of Volume 5 — the fifth incarnation of Marc Silvestri's foundational Image Comics franchise — bringing Morgan Stryker, his daughter Velocity, and the android Aphrodite into open conflict with the villain Killjoy and a soldier displaced from the future. The issue arrived at a moment when the series was completing a rare publishing journey: it had begun as a digital Webtoon strip before being reformatted and relaunched in print by Image Comics, making the entire first four-issue arc a tangible record of how Top Cow experimented with webcomic distribution before returning to the direct market. Thematically, the arc — and this concluding chapter in particular — anchors the reboot's core argument that Silvestri's 1992 transhumanism concept had become genuinely prophetic, with writers Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill treating the blurring of human identity through cybernetic augmentation as a present-day moral crisis rather than science-fiction speculation.

History

Volume 5 of Cyber Force was first announced in 2015 as a digital-only series written by Matt Hawkins and released through the LINE Webtoon platform, with Marc Silvestri overseeing the project as its creator. After that webcomic run concluded, the material was reformatted and relaunched as a conventional periodical by Image Comics beginning in March 2018, with Bryan Hill handling scripting duties and Atilio Rojo providing interior art throughout, while Silvestri supplied covers. Issue #4, published June 27, 2018, was part of the initial batch that collected the first story arc, subsequently gathered into the trade paperback *Cyber Force: Awakening, Vol. 1* in September 2018.
