Cutter #1
From Top Cow and Image Comics, Cutter #1 arrives in 2014 with a genuinely unsettling opener — Christian DiBari's cover depicts a massive, gnarled tree rendered in deep purple, its sprawling roots and twisting limbs clawing across a sickly green-lit landscape beneath a moonlit, storm-clouded sky, with a limp pale figure eerily suspended within the tree's hollow. Writers Robert Napton and Seamus Kevin Fahey are clearly steering this into dark horror territory, and DiBari's atmospheric linework sets a foreboding mood from the very first image. If you're drawn to stories with a genuine sense of dread, this is a promising place to start.
