Tim Fuller's cover for this 1988 Fantagraphics anthology sets a wonderfully absurd scene: a smug duck in a suit peers out from the screen of a "Crab-Apple II" computer, while a frog perched on top of the monitor brandishes a fly swatter at a hovering insect — all alongside a spilled can of "Croak Cola." The story title "The Spy Who Came in for a Cola" promises exactly the kind of playful, punchy humor that made Critters such a delight for fans of funny-animal comics. With Fuller handling every creative duty himself, this issue is a nice showcase of one creator's singular comedic vision.
