Criminal Macabre: My Demon Baby #1

This first issue of the four-part My Demon Baby arc opens with a cover by Tim Bradstreet that perfectly sets the tone: a battered, cigarette-smoking Cal McDonald grips a pistol in one hand while cradling a unsettling, dark-eyed infant in the other — an image that captures the series' signature blend of hard-boiled grit and supernatural unease. Steve Niles brings his Cal McDonald mystery back to Dark Horse in 2007 with artist Nick Stakal and colorist Michelle Madsen along for the ride. If you like your detective fiction with a heavy dose of the weird, this is a promising start.
