When Dan Turner stumbles onto a gruesome discovery at Paratone Pictures—what he thinks is the severed head of starlet Lana Ware—he's quickly corrected: it's just a wax dummy for a picture in production. But moments later, a real corpse turns up on the set: leading man Joe McCord, stabbed and still warm, hidden among the studio's lifelike props. Now Turner must untangle which suspects had motive enough to kill—and use the very wax figures meant to fool the camera to catch a killer who almost fooled him.
