Crime and Justice #12
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeA tense standoff fills this 1953 Charlton crime thriller, with Lou Morales's cover depicting a coolly menacing bald figure reclining in yellow robes, coolly dismissing accusations of kidnapping and murder — while a bound, gagged blonde woman tied to a chair and a lurking figure slipping through a doorway tell a very different story. The man in the blue suit confronting him (presumably Mr. Chase, named in the speech bubble) looks far from convinced by the "peaceful merchant" defense. It's a masterfully staged scene of danger hiding behind a thin veneer of respectability, perfectly capturing the sharp, pulpy edge that made early-'50s crime comics so gripping.
