“Robot on the Rampage!”

"Robot on the Rampage!" kicks off in *Creepy Worlds* #185 (1979), a standout issue from Alan Class with a story by and illustrated by Bill Everett, whose distinctive hand brings to life a surreal underwater realm. When a man is transformed by alien doctors to survive beneath the waves, he’s thrust into a strange society where a princess’s affection is tied to a treasure chest of seashells—currency that means nothing on land. Captured and sentenced to two years in prison, his fate hinges on a reversal that may never come. The cover, by Russ Heath, captures the tale’s eerie, otherworldly tension.

A man finds himself in an underwater world where their doctors have converted his body to survive underwater. The king's daughter is taken with him and so wishes to marry him, but he only wants her dowry treasure chest and steals it. He passes out on the surface since he can no longer breathe air, and is captured and placed in prison. The king tells him he will serve a two year sentence for his theft and then the doctors will reverse their work and deposit him on the surface. The dowry consisted of a chest of seashells, which they use for currency, but would be worthless on the surface.
