“The Bum's Rush”

Marvel's self-proclaimed "Magazine That Dares to Be Dumb" returns with a gleefully unhinged #1, and John McCrea's cover sets the tone perfectly: the gap-toothed, green-hatted clown Obnoxio looms enormous over a scrambling cast that includes Wolverine, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, the Thing, Spider-Man, and an X-Man in blue — all perched precariously on what appears to be an oversized baked good, while Obnoxio bellows about strapping on your clown shoes. Inside, Gerry Duggan leads a roster of contributors including Howard, Adams, Simpson, Bustos, and more through "The Bum's Rush" and additional absurdist fare rendered with color by Rachelle Rosenberg. If you've been waiting for a Marvel comic that wears its silliness as a badge of honor, this 2019 one-shot is happy to oblige.
