Crack Western #72
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue features "The Whip," a story in which outlaws set a death trap for the notorious vigilante by luring him to an abandoned canyon where they pose as miners guarding a gold claim. A woman named Lou prepares the cabin with ghost-traps and blanks in a rifle to ambush him, but the plan ultimately fails. The issue also includes a text story titled "Arizona Raines," featuring a tall tale by character Charley Walker about a hard winter on the range and his encounters with giant bears, culminating in a lying contest won by character Lil Peters with her own exaggerated frontier yarn.
Arizona Raines and his young partner Spurs had sworn off trouble, but when they rescue a woman from rough hands, they discover she's connected to a dangerous scheme—and end up framed for outlawry by the crooked Cole Yoder and his puppet sheriff. Now trapped in a rigged town that's ready to hang them, Arizona and Spurs must find a way out of Satan's Roost and prove they're on the right side of the law.
When a terrified prospector named Hank Trott stumbles onto Two-Gun Lil's ranch, babbling about a wailing ghost chasing him out of Grim Gulch, she decides to spend the night in his cabin to get to the bottom of the mystery. What Lil discovers sets her up for a showdown with a very real—and very desperate—impostor who's willing to kill to keep his scheme secret.
Arizona Raines and his partner Spurs just want a quiet meal in Canyon City, but when a young woman named Fran Carter asks for help with her wayward brother Dade, the two drifters find themselves up against the scheming Mal Hartz—a smooth operator who's been using the boy to gain control of the family ranch. Arizona hatches a plan to expose Hartz's true colors by having Fran sign over her share to them, forcing the villain's hand and leading to a reckoning neither side will forget.
