In the cover story, "The Funniest Kid in Town," Cookie performs with a musical band on stage, disrupting their performance with comical results. In "Science Marches Backwards," young Jitterbuck Jones's secret basement experiments with growing mold on stale fish and vegetables create such a foul odor that neighbors complain to police and fire chiefs, who discover the source of the mysterious stench. The final story follows Cookie as he receives a Christmas present—a fur coat—which leads to complications when a delivery mix-up results in an electric iron being delivered instead, causing Cookie trouble with adults who suspect him of the error.
Cookie's Christmas shopping spree leaves him broke and stuck working off a massive debt at the department store—but when his rival Zoot uses his father's connections to become Cookie's boss, the scheming quickly spirals into label-switching, mixed-up deliveries, and a frantic chase through the store that lands Cookie in a Santa suit. What follows is a chaotic holiday shift that tests Cookie's character while Zoot's manipulation threatens to blow up in everyone's face.
