Gianluca Maconi's Connie la Barbare arrives from Tabou BD with a cover that sets the tone perfectly: a grinning, flame-haired barbarian woman lounges with easy confidence on an ornately carved throne flanked by screaming grotesque faces, a severed head sulking at her feet and a fearsome axe propped nearby. The whole image radiates playful irreverence — this is clearly a heroine who's already won whatever fight just happened and is thoroughly enjoying the aftermath. Fans of sword-and-sorcery comedy with a distinctly adult edge will want to seek out this first volume, La Nuit du Gloriole.
