"Tunnel of Love" follows a man named Butch who takes his girlfriend Tessie on a romantic gondola ride through a theme park attraction, where he confesses his deep feelings for her and they share a kiss that seems magical. The story then shifts to reveal Butch's past: he was once a big-game hunter on safari who was frightened by natives and attacked by animals, leading him to abandon his calling. Later, Miss Susan Oliver, an author, visits publisher Mr. Dexter's office in trouble, confessing that she wrote a story about a man she loved who she described as "plain" and homely, which deeply hurt him and caused him to distance himself from her. The narrative concludes with Miss Oliver resolving to change her appearance and become more appreciative of inner qualities, with a man named Mr. Dexter promising to help her transform and support her newfound humility.
