“A Witch Shall Be Born”

Brian Moore's painted cover for this December 1989 Marvel magazine-format issue sets a vivid, pulpy tone: a muscular Conan swings a great battle-axe against a towering, red-skinned demonic figure whose hands crackle and stream with supernatural fire, the two locked in fierce combat above a blazing altar. The inset line drawing of the double-headed axe in the corner adds a nice finishing touch to the package. Inside, Roy Thomas adapts "A Witch Shall Be Born" with art from John Buscema and Tony DeZuniga — a strong creative team delivering Hyborian adventure in the oversized Saga format.
