Conan le Barbare #11
This eleventh volume in Arédit-Artima's Conan le Barbare series collects tales of the Cimmerian's underwater adventures, featuring the titular 'demon of the depths' as Conan confronts ancient horrors beneath the waves. Part of the French-language reprint series that adapted Marvel's Conan the Barbarian comics for European readers in the 1980s, this tome continues the barbarian's sword-and-sorcery exploits against supernatural foes.
Conan the Barbarian #11 (1982) features the iconic warrior in "Le démon des profondeurs," a tale written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by John Buscema, with inking also by Buscema. The cover, a striking piece by Benoît Bonte, captures the story's dark, mythic tone.
In "Le démon des profondeurs," Conan recounts a harrowing tale from his youth to Belit, set in the shadow of Vanir village on the Western Sea. Captured by the Vanirmen, he is forced to confront a monstrous creature from the deep—its deadly presence turning the sea into a realm of terror. As the waters churn and the villagers fall, one man's survival hinges on courage and a blade forged in desperation.
In "Le démon des profondeurs," Conan, Belit, and their corsair crew fight to defend the island city of Kelka from the ruthless pirate Auro and his Argossean raiders. After their victory, they are betrayed and captured by Kelka’s ruler, Akkheba, who offers them wine laced with a strange drug.
In the island city of Kelka, Conan and Belit flee through crumbling streets as the sea-god awakens, its wrath consuming the city in a tide of ancient fury. Trapped between betrayal and bloodshed, Conan must navigate treachery from within—Kawaku’s treachery cutting deep—while Belit stands defiant against Akkheba’s final threat.
