"Iron Vic" by Bernard Dibble follows a mysterious baseball player named Iron Vic who joins the Panthers, a team five games behind the league-leading Bruins in a pennant race. Iron Vic proves himself an exceptional athlete, making a crucial defensive play in a tight game and displaying unexpected batting prowess. However, his true identity and background remain shrouded in mystery, with teammates and a veteran baseball writer unable to explain where he came from or who he really is. When confronted by what appears to be underworld figures seeking him out, Vic's hidden past threatens to catch up with him as the story concludes with violence and uncertainty.
