Comics' Greatest World: X #1
"Fire and Ice, Part One: Abandoned Hearts" kicks off a gripping clash in the gritty streets of Arcadia, where hitman Gamble is hired to eliminate the vigilante X—only to find X already ahead of him, dismantling the corrupt Llewellyn brothers. As Gamble is pulled into a deadly game by mob boss Carmine Tango, the line between hunter and hunted blurs when a rooftop showdown erupts into a blazing inferno, forcing X to make a choice that tests his code. Written by Steven Grant and brought to life with sharp, dynamic art by Doug Mahnke and James Palmiotti, with vivid colors by Pamela Rambo and crisp lettering by Lois Buhalis, the issue’s cover by Rick Leonardi and James Palmiotti captures the tension in a single, striking image.
