An amnesiac soldier in American uniform is wandering the battlefields of World War I. He encounters a German artillery outfit and is shot at and begins shooting back. He single handedly destroys the German's big gun, allowing the Americans to advance. When approached by the American Sergeant he is knocked unconscious by him. When questioned by his Captain, the Sergeant replied that he asked for his name rank and serial number, the hero responded in German. He was a German spy sent to destroy the American gun but had amnesia due to an exploding shell.
