Combat Casey #14

This 1954 Atlas/Marvel war title puts Combat Casey front and center in a way that grabs you immediately — the red-bearded, bare-chested soldier dominates the cover, bayonet raised and rifle overhead, wrestling a TNT-clutching enemy while additional hostile soldiers close in from the background. Joe Maneely's cover art crackles with raw energy, capturing the hand-to-hand desperation of Korean War combat in bold, expressive linework. Inside, writer Hank Chapman and artist Robert Q. Sale bring their own gritty sensibility to the story "Penny's Peek-a-Boom Patrol," making this a fine slice of mid-fifties war comics storytelling.
