Volume 5 of Koji Iwanaga's Clevatess arrives with a cover that's equal parts melancholy and tension — a blonde warrior in a green cloak clutches herself amid bare, skeletal trees, her gaze cool and guarded while an ornate gold sword and a sweep of vivid red fabric frame her figure against a muted, wintry sky. The geometric purple border gives the whole composition an almost ceremonial weight, perfectly suited to this dark fantasy series. If you've been following along, this 2023 Ki-oon volume looks like a compelling next chapter.
