About this Collection

This second volume of the Cleopatra in Space series collects the full graphic novel story 'The Thief and the Sword,' continuing the adventures of a young Cleopatra as she navigates a futuristic world and battles threats to the galaxy. Written and illustrated by Mike Maihack, this Scholastic edition follows the heroine's quest to recover a powerful artifact while balancing her duties as a student and a destined leader.

In "Chapter One" of Cleopatra in Space #2, Cleopatra learns the hard way that even the most careful trap avoidance has its limits—especially when she thinks the test is over. With Brian sharing new findings about the ancient tablets that brought her to the future, the trio begins to piece together a mystery tied to the Egyptian gods, a prophecy, and the real reason she’s here: to stop Octavian. Written and illustrated by Mike Maihack, with colors by Dan Conner and Kate Carleton, and a cover by Mike Maihack, this 2015 Scholastic issue blends classroom antics with interstellar stakes.

Cleopatra demonstrates before the class how to avoid booby traps, only to be tripped up after she assumes the exercise was complete. Brian explains results of his research to Akila and Cleopatra. The Egyptian gods may have created the tablets that sent Cleopatra to her far future, where she is prophecized to defeat Octavian. Finding the tablets will give her a way home, but if Octavian finds them first he could send her home on his own.
