To prove her innocence, Claire agrees to help the district attorney by posing as a big Broadway producer to meet with Laura Dane, an old acquaintance who may have information about the crime. The plan goes awry when Laura forces Claire into a closet at gunpoint and flees, but Claire's alibi and cooperation are deemed sufficient to secure her release.
