“Les comédiens”

Sally, who was raised in an orphanage, is fired from her job at a fashion shop. A stranger sees her plight and takes her out to a renowned restaurant. He leaves her to make a phone call and while he is gone, the lights go out. He returns and the lights are restored, but one of the other patrons exclaims that her necklace has been stolen. His behavior and the later recovery of the necklace at a cathedral they visited that night leads her to believe he stole it. She gets a job as a nanny in another town and tries to forget him until she sees him as a server at a party thrown by her host family.
