Chocolate Cheeks #[nn]

Steven Weissman's Chocolate Cheeks is a delightfully oddball entry in Fantagraphics' alternative comics lineup, collecting his YIKES! series in one cheerful package. The cover gives you a perfect taste of Weissman's sensibility: a four-panel strip up top features a pair of swim-goggle-wearing kids demanding backup from "Officer Chub" — which, it turns out, means Tae Kwon Do — while below, a round-headed, X-eyed child in a pink jacket strolls a rocky streamside alongside a scraggly little white dog. Weissman's clean, rubbery linework and deadpan humor make this one of the more genuinely charming underground-adjacent comics to come out of 2010.
