Chic Young's Dagwood Comics #121

Dagwood is at it again — this September 1961 Harvey Comics issue captures everyone's favorite harried commuter mid-snooze, literally horizontal in mid-air, briefcase in hand, as a wide-eyed uniformed conductor watches in alarm from the train car doorway. The giant "ZZZZZZ" arcing across the bright yellow cover says it all: Dagwood Bumstead can sleep through absolutely anything, even boarding a moving vehicle. Chic Young's loose, expressive linework gives the whole gag an irresistible rubber-limbed energy that made this series a staple of 1961 newsstands.
