Margarett and Silvia had been studying to be nurses in Paris when Margarett fell in love with Jean. However, Silvia stole Jean from her and married him. Months later Silvia fell ill and, feeling guilty toward her friend, begged for Margarett to be brought in to be her nurse. When Silvia died, Margarett was accused of murder, but acquitted. Desiring a blank slate, Margarett left Paris and found work in Bordeaux at Hospital Saint-Lucien. She buried herself in her work until she was brought in to nurse a patient from a car accident and discovered it was Jean.
