Checkmate #15

Checkmate #15 brings a visceral jolt to DC's 2007 espionage series, with a cover by Matthew Clark that fills the frame with the cracked, leering face of Egg Fu — glowing red eyes, a wide predatory grin, and a cybernetic arm wielding a blood-smeared weapon — while a torn, blood-soaked red-white-and-blue costume lies pinned beneath him. The tagline "Egg in Your Face!" sets the tone with dark, sardonic humor that the series does so well. Writers Greg Rucka and Judd Winick team with artists Joe Bennett and Jack Jadson for "Checkout Part 5," and if this cover is any indication, things have gone very badly for someone on the Checkmate roster.
