Prof. Stone tells Bill that in 1570 Captain Vetasco carried some dodo birds as a gift to a chief in Ecuador. The ship was wrecked on one of the Galapagos islands, and the professor believes the dodo survived there. Bill sails the Polaris through the Panama Canal to the island to capture a living dodo.
