The second part of Joann Sfar's graphic biography of Marc Chagall finds the wide-eyed young artist hunched over a golden sketchbook, surrounded by a swirl of orange cats peering in from the shadows of a richly colored, dreamlike room. Sfar's cover perfectly captures the enchanted, slightly otherworldly atmosphere one associates with Chagall's world — intimate yet alive with strange energy. A lovely continuation of this French-language series from Gallimard, published in 2011.
