“Hands of Destiny”

In "Hands of Destiny," the Deacon and his sidekick Mickey answer a strange cry in the marshland, stumbling upon a dying man who speaks of "demons of death" before succumbing. Following the man’s cryptic warning, they track the eerie figures to a bank heist—only to uncover that the masked villains are none other than the respected members of Centreville Bank's Board of Directors, using their public trust to steal from the institution they’re sworn to protect. Written by Jack Grogan and illustrated by Jack Alderman, with a striking cover by Chas. M. Quinlan, this 1943 tale blends mystery and moral reckoning in a story that’s as sharp as its 10-cent cover price.

Hearing a weird cry, the Deacon and Mickey exit their home and go out into the marshland, discovering a fatally wounded man who warns them of the "demons of death". Spotting several figures looking like devils, they soon spot those figures robbing a bank of their gold. Deacon puts a false ad in the personal column to draw them out into the open so they can be dealt with, and soon discovers the band of villains are members of the Centreville Bank's Board of Directors, wanting to embezzle the bank's funds.
