Posy Simmonds brings her sharp, literary sensibility to this French edition of Cassandra Darke, published by Denoël Graphic in 2019. The cover sets an immediately arresting tone: a stout, fur-hatted older woman strides through a snowy urban landscape, clutching a handbag and — strikingly — a small pistol in her bright yellow glove, while a younger, anxious-looking woman follows close behind. It's a wonderfully incongruous image, blending the mundane and the menacing with Simmonds' characteristic dry wit.
