Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney's Donald Duck Adventures in Color #1
The Carl Barks Library kicks off in fine style with this 1994 Gladstone collection presenting Carl Barks's work in full color, and the cover — pencilled and inked by Barks himself — sets a wonderfully salty tone. Donald Duck stands outside a harborside establishment bearing the irresistible sign "Bucket o' Blood Sea Food Grotto — D. Duck, Prop.," while a green parrot in a pirate hat eyes him with gleeful mischief, tall-masted ships dotting the bay in the background. With Bob Karp, Jack Hannah, and Barks all contributing to the story "Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold," this first volume is a great entry point into a library that brings these adventures the vivid color treatment they deserve.
