Cathy notices a girl staring at her and Benoît as they lounge under a tree. He initially ignores her, but when the girl greets him, it is obvious they know each other. Benoît quickly tells Francine they must leave and he later tells Cathy how he knew her. Francine had been his brother's fiance and Benoît had been wallpapering his brother's future apartment. Attempting to take curtain measurements, Francine stumbled on a ladder. Benoît caught her in his arms and in an unexpected moment of passion, they kissed. Embarrassed by their behavior, Benoît took the train that led him to meet Cathy.
